Welcome to Anthrocon!

Anthrocon is the world's largest convention for those fascinated with anthropomorphics, which are humanlike animal characters. We are a collection of artists, animators, writers, costumers, puppeteers, and just everyday fans who enjoy cartoon animals and their kin. This Summer we will convene at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA, from June 26-29 for workshops, panel discussions, an art exhibition and a dealer room, and much more! Membership is open to any and all who like to imagine what it would be like if animals could walk and talk as we do.
Our honored guest:

Westin has more rooms!

I just got word that the Westin has worked through its waiting list, and there are TWO king-bed rooms available for Thursday through Sunday. There are also six corner suites that are only available for Friday and Saturday nights. To reserve the king rooms, you need to call Ms. Sam Waterman at (412) 560-6365. To reserve the suites, email ceo(at)anthrocon.org with WESTIN SUITE very prominent in the subject line. Don't wait - these will probably go very quickly!

Some special events for Thursday night

For those arriving early, Anthrocon is very pleased to announce performances by two outstanding musical performers: Mr. Tom Smith and Mr. Alexander Adams will be sharing their musical talents with us on Thursday evening, June 26 (and if we ask them nicely, perhaps at other times during the convention)! You can click here for more information.

Want to be a Stage Ninja? Volunteer for the A/V department!

Anthrocon needs volunteers! Specifically the Audio Video department is looking for 1 or 2 dedicated individuals who would like to lend a hand in the operation of the largest Anthropomorphics convention in the world!

The Audio and Video department spends most of its time working in the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom, overseeing the events there and operating all of our lighting and sound equipment. We also handle A/V needs in panel rooms. No experience is necessary! The most important skill you can bring to this position is dedication!

If you think this sounds interesting to you, send me an email! My address is smblion at anthrocon dot org and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about this!

Westin Fursuit Floor requests now being taken

In an effort to make things a little easier for our fine costumers, the Westin has set aside some rooms on lower floors that are easily accessible by stair to someone with limited eyesight and big floppy paws. Just click on the Fursuit Floor link in the menu bar to the left for more information. Remember, you must be a fursuiter yourself or have one staying in your room, and you must already have a confirmed Westin reservation.

Quick Programming Update

Hi everyone!

Anthrocon programming is shaping up quite nicely this year. We have some really interesting and innovative new panels being done this year. In the fandom track, we have something new: The Husky Meet and Greet. That's right, some dedicated husky fans are putting together a panel to meet, talk about, and generally celebrate huskies and husky characters. Like last year, we also have a fun "Foxes Abound" panel. Several other panels about other animal and regional species are in the works. In our Science and technology track, we now have scheduled a panel for the "RoboFurs". These are robot entusiasts who have anthropomorphic robots as toys and virtual pets. This is a first for us, and we're very happy to add this wonderful new panel to our lineup.

AC '08 DJ Spotlight: DJ Big Blue Fox

Anthrocon features some of the most talented DJs in the Furry Fandom, but who are they really? We'll be taking some time in coming weeks to let you know, in their own words, what makes them tick and what you can expect from their sets.

This week we've got a DJ who's new to Anthrocon, but well known in the fandom, DJ Big Blue Fox!

Fandom Name: Big Blue Fox
Stage Name: DJ Big Blue Fox
Age: 33

Genres: Trance
DJ Style: Club

Rooms available at all hotels

Remember, the 25th is the last day to cancel a Westin reservation without penalty! We have seen several already, and as those people cancel, rooms are coming available. Before you give in to dispair because you did not get a room, try calling the hotels directly and find out if anything has become available. Remember too that the Westin has a waiting list going.
