MAY 2003 ISSUE

Review of Music Midtown 2003
May 2, 3, 4 - Atlanta, GA
By Ronnie

Intro:
Although I saw many of the acts at this year's Music Midtown, these three bands impressed me most.

SATURDAY May 2, 2003:

Cowboy Mouth
Cowboy Mouth was definitely one of the highlights of Music Midtown 2003. Fred Leblanc is the James Brown of new rock bands, with boundless and infectious energy. You don't just go to a Cowboy Mouth show, you are part of the show - Fred requires audience participation! While Cowboy Mouth songs might not be as catchy or memorable as those of his former band, Dash Rip Rock, you will leave a Cowboy Mouth show a converted fan.

SUNDAY May 3, 2003:

Everclear
Everyclear went on just prior to Def Leppard, and I imagine that the audience consisted of primarily Def Lep fans - because the audience didn't seem to respond much to Everclear. Just a so-so concert, not one of the better ones at Music Midtown.

Def Leppard
When Joe Elliot hopped onto the stage wearing a black T-Rex shirt, the audience simply erupted! There aren't a lot of the hardrock/heavy metal bands of the '80s that can fill a stadium-sized audience much less entertain them - but Def Leppard pulled it off. I was suddenly transported to London in 1981 when I caught a young Def Leppard in concert at the Hammersmith Odeon. They haven't lost an ounce of energy! It is just too bad they can't make albums like they used to…who knows, if they can pull it off in concert still, maybe they still have a good album left in them.
